From: "Ray Stanford" Subject: Shaker Landing - Committee Reports Date: Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:39:58 -0400 "Report of the Gardening Committee Ann Winter and Ann Byrne purchased, with $100 of the Associations $ planters for the post boxes and Mastro Lane and a plant for the post box planter. (Ann B. also tacked up the vertical piece of lattice-work on the rear post of the shelter, and planted morning glories there.) The balance of $15 of Association funding will be used for a fall plant or a Christmas decoration for the post box area. The two Anns provided, at their own expense, flowers and pots at 5 other locations. Another pot of flowers was placed at the entry of the Brookside Units by Gary Best, a committee member who does so much to beautify the Brookside neighborhood. Ann and Ann" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Both Tom Byrne and John Schumacher were prepared to report verbally on Landscaping in general and the Waterfront. Tom's Report: There had been no formal meetings of the committee, but a walkaround with Ray to appraise the efforts of out new "TNT" grounds crew, and suggest what remained to be done. All are very pleased with the lawn mowing, and Theron Tewksbury (TNT owner) has asked to meet with the committee at one of our scheduled meetings before the fall clean-up to hear our reactions to his work, and suggestions for the future. TNT has done an excellent job of maintaining the post office area and the roadside we worked so hard to clear last fall. The general reaction is that the entrance road area is much improved. Up to this point we have been content to let Theron learn his way around and appreciate the uniqueness of the assignment. If your pleased with TNT's work, or have comments or questions he is very accommodating and eager to hear from us. It is couraging to see him on his mower, mowing the large front lawn himself, with considerable pride and skill, and overseeing his young workers. This is a very POSITIVE development for us. The major effort this summer was to gather a crew of lake-front owners to trim the trees at the waterfront to reveal the view of the lake. Bob and Penny Edwards, Mike Hoar and Ann Winter, Walter Wyland, and Tom and Ann Byrne worked for about two hours to complete the job. The limbs remaining will, hopefully, be ground-up in place and used as mulch under the trees to make it easier and safer to walk around those monster roots. All of those who stroll along the central pathway to the beach should take note of the fantastic job Susan and Chris Broadhurst did to landscape their deck. (35-2). It is a great example of what can be done by individual owners to make our properties even more attractive. Ann Byrne did her annual job of clearing out the area in front of the rock wall in the lower parking area. A big challenge for the near future is to remove the dead and diseased trees, and that brush pile from the 'TREE-LIMBING" project, and to address the issues of accumulating and disposing of brush and leaves. We will meet before "leaf season" begins. Tom B."
